Full Biography
Dr. Oliver Ezechi is a distinguished Obstetrician-Gynaecologist, Public Health Physician, and infectious diseases expert with a focus on HIV, HPV, and hepatitis; addressing the so-called diseases of poverty. He serves as Director of Research at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) and as Professor of Maternal, Reproductive, and Child Health at Lead City University in Ibadan. He is also an adjunct Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at University of Calabar and Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo, Nigeria .
As the Lead of the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) Program at NIMR, he has championed an innovative outreach initiative developed in collaboration with both public and private sector partners. This program has achieved a remarkable track record, delivering five years of zero mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
In addition to his clinical and programmatic leadership, Dr. Ezechi contributes to national policy and ethics governance. He is a member of the Nigerian National Task Team on Antiretroviral Therapy and serves as Vice-Chair of the National Health Research Ethics Committee. Through these roles, he helps shape strategies for HIV treatment and robust, ethically sound health research across the country.
Dr. Ezechi’s work uniquely blends clinical excellence, public health strategy, and ethical governance, driving improvements in maternal and child health and the scale-up of HIV prevention efforts.
