Full Biography
Professor Lloyd B. Mulenga (BScHb, MBChB, MSc, MMed, PhD) is a highly respected Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases physician and a prominent leader in global health. He serves as Director of Infectious Diseases for the Ministry of Health of Zambia and holds key academic and clinical positions at the University of Zambia School of Medicine and the University Teaching Hospital, where he contributes to advancing medical education, clinical care, and research.
Professor Mulenga played a pivotal role in leading Zambia’s clinical response to the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating exceptional leadership in managing public health challenges at a national level. His expertise and experience have positioned him as a trusted voice in infectious disease management and health systems strengthening.
Beyond his national responsibilities, he is actively engaged in global health initiatives. He serves on the NIH/NIAID Data and Safety Monitoring Board, contributes to the WHO Guidelines Development Group, participates in HIVResNet, and is a member of the TDR Joint Coordinating Board. Through these roles, he supports the development of international guidelines, research oversight, and collaborative efforts to address major infectious diseases.
His work focuses on HIV, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, and the translation of research into evidence-based policy and practice. Professor Mulenga remains committed to improving health outcomes across Africa and globally through research, leadership, and strategic collaboration.
