Full Biography

Cleophas Chimbetete is a public health physician with over 15 years of experience in HIV clinical care, research, and health systems strengthening. He currently serves as the Training and Research Director at the Ruedi Luethy Foundation’s Newlands Clinic in Harare, where he leads national HIV training programs and oversees research focused on HIV and non-communicable diseases in collaboration with international partners.

In addition to his work at Newlands Clinic, Dr. Chimbetete works closely with the Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care in the development of national guidelines and training materials for HIV prevention and management, contributing to strengthening HIV care and policy implementation in Zimbabwe.

Dr. Chimbetete holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Zimbabwe, a Diploma in HIV Management from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, and a Master of Public Health (with Merit) from the University of Zimbabwe. He earned a PhD in Global Health from the University of Geneva and also completed a PhD in Public Health through the Swiss School of Public Health, alongside several advanced courses in global health and epidemiology during his doctoral training.

Alongside his clinical and research work, Dr. Chimbetete is a part-time lecturer in Epidemiology at the University of Zimbabwe’s Faculty of Medicine. He has co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has presented his work at numerous local and international scientific conferences.
